Hi there!
My name is Dominique Riviere.
I have a Ph.D. in education, and 20 years' experience in equity and inclusion. In 2020, I launched an equity consultancy called Fictive Kin Equity Lab. Through that work, I came to realize that I needed a bigger platform from which to share my expertise with the world.
We are living through a time of great uncertainty - and, let's be honest - terror.
The predator class and their enablers are struggling to maintain a world order in which their position remains secure, regardless of the political, environmental, and economic degradation it causes. (Someone should tell them that desperation is really not a good look.)
I am not here for it.
Instead, I am here for those who know that a more inclusive, humane, and just world is not only possible, but necessary.
Writer. Speaker. Educator.

What I Offer
Writing
As a social justice writer, my goal is to encourage readers to sit with uncomfortable truths, and then use their discomfort as a call to action.
By pulling apart the arguments, obfuscations, biases, and assumptions that underpin a given issue - be it artificial intelligence, the gender wage gap, the purpose of public education, or why Survivor has been on the air for over 50 seasons, while Bunheads was cancelled after only one - I show that we do not necessarily have to live in a world that’s based on fear, exclusion, and exploitation.
We have the agency - and the right - to create a better one.

Speaking
Public speaking is where I sharpen the ideas and insights I explore in my writing.
Like many “neurospicy” folks, I detest surface-level conversation with the heat of a thousand fiery suns.
Instead, I delight in taking people on an in-depth, seemingly meandering but quietly coherent learning journey, that leads them to unexpected insights about their own capacities.
My goal is always to leave audiences feeling not just inspired, but galvanized to make a positive change in their lives, and their communities.

Learning
My learning and development programs are designed for highly empathetic, passionate equity advocates who are regularly shamed for feeling “too much”.
Because if you want change the world, there’s actually no such thing.
I am currently piloting a monthly salon called Impolite Society. It is a capacity-building program where I use key themes from diverse, inclusive romance novels to help members develop a more revolutionary social justice practice.

FAQ
-
I'm a highly intuitive and perceptive woman, with lived expertise in surviving / thriving at the intersections of racism, sexism and, more recently, ageism.
I belong to some of the rarest human population groups: Ph.D.; Highly Sensitive; and INFJ.
I have a diverse portfolio of both academic and professional experience in equity and social justice.
I am a "Book Person". This is a nicer way of saying that I read. A lot (some might say obsessively). On a wide range of topics. This trait is especially powerful in an unjust society, because Book People are constantly learning how to create better, safer, kinder worlds.
And I’m neurodivergent. Definitely gifted, and very likely autistic.
All of this means that my pattern recognition skills are off the charts.
I have an uncanny ability to see around corners, connect the dots among disparate human experiences, and to reveal the systems that keep our society "comfortable", without being functional.

Please…
“AI” could never.
Large Language Models can be useful in many ways, but they can’t write. They can't write, because they can't create. For that, you need, at the very least, to a) have feelings; and b) not be afraid of experiencing the full scope of them, even if only vicariously.

Because that's what I am.
It's my way of honouring the shy, quiet, nerdy, too weird, sensitive, and intense girl who learned, early and often, that the world we live in charges a very high price for conformity and, simultaneously, exacts a very high price for not conforming.
Yet, somehow, I remained unable - or, perhaps more accurately, unwilling to pay - either of those prices. The keen sense of fairness, deep well of empathy, and high levels of integrity I had as a child wouldn't let me. Now, as an adult, these traits have solidified into an unwavering commitment to equity and social justice.

Nope!
It's just undergoing some renovations to make sure it's the right fit for the work I'm doing now. I'll have more details to share in 2027.
